The day of the concert finally arrived, and Drukpa members were all excited about the night. As the official sponsor for the show, we were given the privilege to set up a booth to promote our activities and to sell our Live To Love products. So a few members from Drukpa Penang and Drukpa KL arrived at the venue early to set up the booth and the slide presentation of Live To Love activities. Tzu Chi members were indeed very helpful by assisting us with the set-up as well as lending us the necessary equipment for the booth and presentation.

Mother Teresa is no stranger to at least half of the world’s population. ‘Home of Love’ is one of the non-profit charitable organizations first founded in Calcutta by this great saint to provide services, love and care to those dying beggars, to give them love and dignity and shelter as their last home.
‘Home of Love’, under the order of Mother Teresa, was established in Hong Kong in 1983 and is currently run by a few volunteering Sisters. They provide short-term accommodation and food to the needy who are referred by Hong Kong Government’s Social Welfare Department.
October 3 was Mid-Autumn Festival in the Chinese calendar year. Traditionally, it is a day of family reunion of loved ones and celebrated with specially made Moon Cakes after a sumptuous dinner. Sixteen Live to Love volunteers visited the ‘Home of Love’ on this particular day to help distribute food to those homeless who frequent the facility. They also brought Moon Cakes to distribute, and shared their love and care with the homeless, reminding them that there are people who care. The volunteers also took time to help clean fans and window at the residence. It was a busy and tiring day but very fulfilling for all who accomplished what they set out to do. After a concentrated and intensive Dharma practice we again fanned out to the Hamburger train station and to the inner city.
With food for those, who were looking for food; medicine for homeless people, who were asking for acute help. With clothes for people, who needed clothes, with sleeping pads, blankets and pillows for those, who were shivering on the frosty ground.
It is unusually cold this October.

Our monthly Live to Love activity of caring for the homeless is growing. Last month, September, we started to offer homemade pies instead of giving already prepared food bought from shops. This month we decided to improve the quality of the food and we also asked for donations, clothes, other equipment and more volunteers to help. There was a good response to all these requests and we also found a source of biodegradable food containers and utensils in which to serve the food. Two people have kindly offered their kitchens on a rota basis so that we can continue to cook nourishing meals.

Inspired by the Pad Yatra, we decided to do some walking in Singapore too. The trail was a short 2 hour walk through the rainforest reserve of Singapore. The highlight of the walk is a bridge that takes over the top of trees.
The purpose of the walk was to appreciate the role of rainforests and trees in environmental protection and balance. Rinchen wrote a short note explaining the importance of trees in serving as carbon sinks and this was circulated to the 15 of us who took part in the walk. We note the link between the increasing speeds of typhoons, global warming and carbon emissions.

The SPA helps poor animals (pets) which have been abandoned or treated very badly by human beings. They help them to recover from their bad experience and later try to find them a loving family. On Sunday, September 20th, a team of twelve “Live to Love” volunteers offered their help to the Society located in Larmor-Plage, in the West part of France, to walk the dogs and brush them down. One by one, every volunteer was given a dog.

On the top of Darjeeling hill, there is a big square called Chowrasta where you can take horse rides while enjoying the mountain view. A few metres from there, on an adjoining street, there are the horses’ stables.
In there, a quite young white horse is tied to a short rope days and nights long. It seems never to be taken out. So, its muscles begin to sag and it might be soon unable to stand up anymore.
This poor horse is so meager that you can clearly see all his bones.
