‘Dragonites’ doing their bid to support waste management and fulfilling their roles as dutiful citizens in Hong Kong, July 26th

As the Swine Flu is still wide spread amongst the world communities, the Hong Kong SAR Government kicked off a ‘Clean Hong Kong Campaign’ to promote personal and public hygiene to combat H1N1 influenza. As dutiful citizens, and great supporters of the environmental protection theme of ‘Live to Love’, Hong Kong sanghas organized a ‘clean the beach’ activity on July 26.

Bracing the heavy rains on that hot summer day (which miraculously lifted off when the volunteers did their bid), Hong Kong sangha collected wastes and plastics off a public beach on the Hong Kong Island. It was amazing how much rubbish was left behind, e.g. plastic bags and bottles, polyfoam food containers and even fishnets…

‘A gift of love to His Holiness – the vegetarian way’ – June results

veg_food3We are happy to report that more participants used our on-line reporting system ”Proud to be a vegetarian” or through the email at vegetarian@drukpa-hk.org to submit their no. of vegetarian days to us in June.  It is also very encouraging to note that some participants are from overseas than in Hong Kong. In June, we received a record of 742 vegetarian days resulting from 37 participants.  And as of date, there is already a recorded total of 1880 vegetarian days (more than 5 years!)

Once again, thank you for your support and we look forward to your continued participation in this meaningful cause and keep the wheel rolling and rolling as fast as possible.  Please feel free to spread this good deed by circulating this information to your list of contacts where appropriate. Live to love!

LIVE TO LOVE, 28 June 09 Extending our love to the animals

p1000309This month we extended our love not only to human beings but also to a group of abandoned animals.  Due to the Swine flu, we postponed this month’s Live to Love activity to 28th June, 2009 and we were happy to offer volunteering work to support the Society for Abandoned Animals (SAA).

SAA’s slogan is “Love Animal, Respect Life, No Killing or Abandoning” which is in line with one of our Live to Love objectives.  As one of the biggest animal sanctuaries in Hong Kong, SAA is a local charitable organization providing shelter and care for approximately 300 abandoned animals.  Despite the bad weather with heavy rain, we were determined to provide some basic care to cats, goats and pigs, helping to feed and groom them.  In addition, we also assisted the organization with some clerical work, accompanied by some lovely dogs around us.
