Singapore Live to Love – Animal life release at sea in Dec 2008

sing4Living to love – we have been inspired by the many instances of live to love activities on the live to love website. On 25th Dec, Poh Ern Shi temple was holding a life liberation event. The few of us from Singapore who had attended His Holiness’ teachings in Hong Kong and Penang participated in this activity and dedicated the merits of our fish release for the long life of His Holiness. Zangmo who could not be present had previously contributed to the event.
The fishes that were released were bought in bulk from Malaysian kelongs. The total estimated amount of fishes released was over 700 and there were over 100 people participating in this life liberation activity.

Singapore Live to Love: Visit to Tai Pei Old People’s Home in Dec 2008

sing-1Fresh from the teachings we received from His Holiness the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa in November in Hong Kong, a few of us Singaporeans headed out for Tai Pei old folks home to practice live to love. For some of us this is our third time to the home. There are nearly 200 old ladies in this home, most of them Cantonese speaking. Most of them have no relatives to visit them and were relocated here from Chinatown when it was renewed many years ago.

Live to Love Mexico

Sunday December 21st my twin daughters and I went to an orphanage for children and adults with brain damage run by an 81 year old nun. When she was young, Sister Ines was in a convent when one morning, a newborn baby was left at the door in a basket. She raised the baby who was handicapped and little by little more babies began showing up. The nuns at the convent told her they could not take care of the babies so Sister Ines decided to leave the convent and with almost nothing, raised the children herself.

People began bringing more and more babies found in trashcans, abused by parents etc. Today, she has a home called Casa Hogar la Divina Providencia (The Home of Divine Providence). She has 238 children and adults all with different kinds of brain damage. She runs the place on her own with the only help of the adults who live there, who were once babies raised and educated by her, but who also have some kind of handicap. Those same adults, the ones that are not so sick, help her in taking care of the younger and sicker ones and so on.
The home lives only on charity.

Live to Love in Black Forest 21st of december 2008

Tara and me were already the week before in the animals home because I got so much blankets and bedsheets from people who react on my advertisment. I spend one whole afternoon to collect all the things, even the German army who have a deposit of blankets nearby phoned me and gave us a huge number of blankets, so that I could send some of them to our sangha in Hamburg to bring them to the homeless people. The same with some very nice and nearly unused bedsheets. They will be send to a hospital in Romania.
Tara was taking care of a cat suffering from cancer and on the live to love sunday we were cleaning all the toilets of the cats again and their rooms.
At the end we made something pleasent: we went for a walk with a lovely dog, who liked it to smell all the fascinating things along the path.
In the afternoon Tara went again for helping cleaning the hamster boxes, playing with them and taking care for an hedgehog.
We wish everybody a merry Christmas and an inspiring New Year and we hope to meet many of you in April for the ADC!

Live to Love Drukpa Plouray, Sunday 21st December 2008 Releasing lives and our second visit at Keramour

In the morning, we went to the market to buy animals. We decided to do so, as at this time of the year, at Christmas, many animals are slaughtered for the Christmas dinner, so we wanted to save some from this sad destiny. When we finished to choose the animals and were waiting to pay, two couples around us were choosing spider crabs and winkles, just like us. A sense of happiness came thinking of the animals we could save, but sadness also came thinking of the poor ones we could not buy, and were bought right after us.
We then drove to the seaside and choose a spot where the animals would have more chance not to be caught too easily by fishermen. Before releasing them, we practiced “The King of Aspirational prayer” near the sea and filled a bottle of water, with mendrup, to put on the animals. We then gave them their freedom back and did a dedication together before leaving the coast.
We were only three that morning, but thanks to the financial help of some who could not join, we could buy around 2000 winkles (10 kilos) and 4 spider crabs. That same day a retreat was held at the Centre by Drupbön Nawang.

Smiles On Faces – Visiting the Homeless, London December 2008

Clothes and gifts packed in bags,
Christmas lights on trees
Pont Street – A sign that caught my eyes
Knew someone who lived there once.

Knocked on the door of St Mungo
Handed them in and chatted with
the workers. He was once
Homeless, walked out left his wife
Slept on streets, turned to drink.
Now he works, cast aside his old ways,
She helps him.
