Live to Love - Geneva, June 2008

Dear all,

Last sunday our second Live to Love sunday took place in Geneva area. We went all together to a home for abandoned animals, mostly dogs cats and rabbits, and in accord with the house owners we took some of the dogs for a long walk in the fields around. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had to found shade and forest so these poor animals don’t feel to hot. We found a small lake and some of the dogs went in the water for a cooling jump! At first they were little agressive with each other so we had to walk alone each of us with his dog, but after some time we managed to make them accept each other, at least some of them. Some were so excited that we had to run a lot to let their energy out! Some other wanted to be taken in arms, maybe to feel some closeness… It was a very nice day for all of us, and I think also for these dogs who spend most of there life in a small cage waiting for adoption. The daughter of one of the sangha members was also there and she will try to talk in school of the place, so maybe some animals find a new loving home…

My Live to Love Activity

I am reading books to kids in a kindergarten near my house. Many children are Turkish and a lot never had a book in their hands (also Germans). They love to listen to stories and to get loving attention. Because I don’t have a live-to-love-T-Shirt, I wear a dragon-T-Shirt. The kids love the dragons! On Sunday the kindergarten is closed, so I go there on Wednesday. I already have been reading books there before the live-to-love-activity started and I don’t want to stop it to start something on Sunday. The kids also had fun to make the photos. This photo was made by 4 year old girl Ebru!

Flowers, cakes and balloons for Burma and China

On Saturday, the 14th of June, at the Lices big market and with the agreement of the mayor of Rennes, members of Drukpa Rennes sold shoots of flowers from our gardens, homemade cakes and shaped balloons to raise funds for the victims of the cyclone Nargis in Burma and of the earthquake in China.
Many people are concerned with the suffering of these victims and have come to ask questions, make a donation or even thank us for our action.
Two persons however came to us because they simply needed someone to listen to them as they are suffering.
Children could “adopt” balloon dogs which were given veggie names (market day!) and adults were “watered” with happiness by the clown Bergamote. It was really funny to see people lean forward to receive a happiness shower and ask for more.
It was therefore a very generous morning both in the adults’ donations and their caring for the victims and in the smiles of the children which were filled with wonder.
The full benefit of this Live to Love action will be given to Drukpa Humanitaire and to France Birmanie, an association which works with local Burmese non-governmental organizations.

Our First Orchard In Soccma

After our last visit when we shared and got to know more the children, parents and teachers in Soccma School and having identified some of the problems in which we can help or give alternative solutions to the different shortages the inhabitants and specially the children have; we have in mind some projects at medium and long term.
Some of us are new to this kind of projects and we want to do it seriously, in order to do so we need to get informed and qualified, learn from friends who already had this kind of experience. Jigme Dedron (Sandra) works in non-profit organisations and is professional developing democracy and gender projects. She is starting a diagnosis of the situation in the community which we will use to coherently develop long term projects, and thus truly benefit our kids in Soccma. Meanwhile we keep working on our small projects.

18.5.2008 Drukpa, Kuala Lumpur Participated In Blood Donation Activity

One day before the Anniversary of Buddha Shakyamuni’s Enlightenment and Parinirvana, we participated in the Blood Donation and Organ Donation organized by Jigmed Nordhen and Jigmed Yangdzom held at Pearl Point Shopping Mall.

Self-attachment is one of the causes of samsara and suffering. Through blood donation, it enhance our notion that our body is made up of blood, flesh, bones, air and heat and therefore we should not be attach to our body. Life is uncertain but death is certain. One day, we are certain to die and at that time, we have to abandon our body. Therefore, while we are still alive, we should use this body wisely doing whatever beneficial acts to help other sentient beings. To love oneself creates suffering, to love others brings happiness. The greater one extends his love towards other, the greater happiness one will get. To donate one’s blood need courage and compassionate motivation. It is a selfless act, which does not hope for anything in return.

13.4.2008 Food Fair Kuala Lumpur

Ti-Ratana Orphanage and Old Folks Home organized a Food Fair on 13th Apr 2008 to raise fund in sustaining the food expenses, education fees, medical fees, etc. for their in-house orphans and old folks.

The food fair was held in a school and many Buddhist groups participated including us, Drukpa Kuala Lumpur. We cooked a few varieties of food to sell at the food fair. The money collected from the sales was donated to the Orphanage and Old Folks Home.

The food fair started from 9am and lasted until 2pm.It was quite a long day and this really needed effort, patience, perseverance, tolerance and team works as well; do not to give up in whatever one does regardless of the situation and circumstances; to learn how to deal with people of various characters….Well, there are a lot to learn, to live in this world, but we should learn to live to love others, and not live to harm others.

Every Sunday - Releasing Of Life

A group of us from Drukpa Kuala Lumpur carried out the Live to Love activity every Sunday by releasing of life in The Mines. Since we had been wandering in samsara since beginning less time, there is not one sentient being who had not been our father or mother, including those who are born in animal realm. Therefore, we should extend our love towards these sentient beings in animal realm as well. On every Sunday, we save and release them into lakes, as many fishes as we could which are still alive from being cut, chopped and slaughtered cruelly to be sold at wet market.

Saving life can help to cultivate compassionate mind within us. It is a great virtuous deed because these can also prevent the fish sellers and buyers from committing killing deeds, which might cause them to be reborn in three lower realms and suffer tremendously.

By reciting mantras and prayers while releasing lives, plant the Enlightenment seeds within their mind stream. One day, when this seed ripen, they will attain Enlightenment as well.

Help Most Welcome

After our first contact on the third Sunday in April where we offered animal food we were out to help actively today. With toolbox and in working clothes we arrived cheerfully in the morning at that animal home. While Paldron and Tara cleaned the cages of small animals (birds, hamsters, chinchillas und lemmings) was Senge in full gear as handyman and kuli.
